- Texas Giant Goes Steel: Abomination or Giant Improvement?9 March 2010, 10:59 am
Six Flags’ Texas Giant Gets a Steel Makeover for 2011 For months we’ve known that Texas Giant was closed and would not be open until the 2011 season. It was pretty clear that Six Flags was going to give the 24 year old woodie some needed rehab and/or re-tracking. But recently it was announced that Rocky [...]...
- Sky Rocket Construction Photos & Kennywood in the Snow7 March 2010, 1:02 pm
Longtime reader Judy sent in these great shots of Kennywood. There are a number of cool images of the Pittsburgh area park after a recent snow storm. She also sent a few images that show the construction site for the park’s 2010 roller coaster, Sky Rocket. Although, it doesn’t appear like too much actual construction [...]... - Black Mamba | Most Wanted Roller Coasters5 March 2010, 9:12 am
This Bolliger & Mabillard low flying inverted coaster looks like a fun ride. Located at Phantasialand in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the African-themed coaster dives below the ground a number of times. It’s subterranean sections are reminiscent of Montu’s Egyptian-themed trenches and Nemesis’s low flight path. It appears to spend even more time underground than those [...]... - Stuff Coaster Enthusiasts Like | Theme Park Website Spotlight3 March 2010, 5:10 am
Normally I wouldn’t showcase a defunct website, but the eight posts on this short-lived blog are awesome. Stuff Coaster Enthusiasts Like is based on the popular blog Stuff White People Like that has inspired other sites and even books like Stuff Christians Like. They’re often written from a standpoint akin to a sociologist or someone studying [...]... - Gravity Group’s Timberliner Trains Could Be a Game Changer28 February 2010, 2:44 am
I’ll start by admitting that this is not a breaking story, but it does deserve a post. The Gravity Group is a wooden roller coaster design company. They’re a fairly young company, but they’ve churned out some amazing coasters in the past five years including Hades, Ravine Flyer II, Fireball (China’s first wooden coaster, and [...]... - Kings Dominion’s Intimidator 305 Construction27 February 2010, 5:55 am
Intimidator 305: Intimidating Indeed King’s Dominion’s massive Giga coaster is nearing completion. Images on the official mini site (Intimidator 305 Kings Dominion.com) show the red steel track reaching 305 feet into the sky. Even with all of the images in photo gallery, it’s hard to conceive just how tall 300 feet is. I saw Intimidator at [...]...
- Keep Arms, Legs, and...Um, Other Stuff Inside the Vehicles9 March 2010, 11:20 pm
Those wacky Brits are at it again. In what is becoming a semi-regular stunt, UK coaster fans boarded a roller coaster in the buff. Naked. Not even any bloomers fer cryin' out loud. According to the Telegraph, 33 riders braved the elements, all in the name of charity, on the Nemesis roller coaster at Alton Towers in North Staffordshire, England. Just curious: How would YOU feel about sliding into one of the coaster's seats after some naked dude finished his ride? Roller Coaster Ride Guide 2010 W...
- Gentlemen, Start Your (Coaster) Engines9 March 2010, 5:34 am
Things have slowed down a bit at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. After hinting that the indoor theme park might open in the first three months of 2010, a spokesperson is now saying that the checkered flags will come down in the second half of the year. Still, at least the project is moving forward, unlike most of the United Arab Emirates parks that once promised to supplant Orlando as the theme park capital of the world. The pace at Ferrari World promises to pick up considerably once it opens. Among th... - Universal Going Ape for Kong8 March 2010, 10:58 am
Did you see the ad for the new King Kong attraction coming to Universal Studios Hollywood that debuted during last night's Oscars telecast? I didn't. Maybe it only played west of the Mississippi. Or maybe it was one of the many times I zoned out during the loooooong broadcast. (Although the hilarious duo of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did jolt me back to attention whenever they were onscreen.) The old Kong perished in the fire that swept through the California studio and theme park in 2008. T... - A Transporting Experience at Potter Land5 March 2010, 9:02 am
Universal released an image of the Hogwarts Express train that will stand near the entrance of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter land at Islands of Adventure. While the impressive-looking, life-size locomotive will billow steam, it will remain a stationary prop (although a ride aboard the train to Hogsmeade would be a cool feature). There is still no official word about the nature of the E-ticket ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which is sequestered inside the park's Hogwarts Cast... - The Coaster is Clear5 March 2010, 4:46 am
OK park fans, you can come out of hiding now. After a long and often brutal (in many parts of the US anyhow) winter, it's finally--FINALLY!--time for some seasonal amusement parks to open. While we still may officially be in winter's grip, some parks are celebrating spring break by opening their turnstiles tomorrow (Saturday, March 6). Among the parks revving up the flywheels on their coasters' lift hill chains are Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Six Flags Over Georgia, Wild Adventures, Six Flags O... - Robots from Mars Save Universe! Six Flags has announced more attractions and shows coming to its parks this season, including a new motion simulator ride, Robots from Mars, set to debut at Six Flags Over Texas. Guests will be able to join Sparky the Robot and his buddies as they defeat the evil Supervisor of Mars (there's a name sure to strike fear, eh theme park fans?) and save the universe. See what else is on its way at the updated Six Flags Ride Guide 2010. El Toro- A review of the incredible Six Flags coaster. Six Flags ...

The attraction is said to be utilizing the Kuka arm technology used in the “Knight’s Tournament” attraction at Legoland and the “Sum of All Thrills” which just opened at Epcot. Sponsered by Ride World and Theme Park Review, West Coast Bash is now taking place at Six Flags Magic Mountain AND Knott’s Berry Farm. So for those of you bummed about the lack of Winter Coaster Solace going on this year, this is a great (if not better) alternative! In an article in the Sandusky Register, the Knott family made it known that they are not pleased with the potential take over of Cedar Fair by Apollo Management. Stephen Knott, the grandson of the founder of the park, Walter Knott, said “I hate to just think of having a small pot of money and nothing else.” – which makes sense, to a degree. However, if any of you have been to Knott’s since Cedar Fair took over you know as well as I do that the charm of the ... ... - 2009, A Year In Review – Sort Of31 December 2009, 12:25 pm
I don’t know about you guys, but I have become weary of all these “best of the year” “top ten of the decade” “year in review” lists and I think it’s my job to give you something just a tad more interesting. Well, unless you really dig those top ten lists, because then you’ll most likely be disappointed. So I’m going to give you my absolute favorite new additions of the year. Favorite ride and show. Perhaps favorite isn’t the best ... - Christmas With The Castle: Disneyland Update28 December 2009, 6:00 pm
Let me first of all wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, or Holiday Season if that’s what you prefer. I hope it has been filled with family, friends, and all that jazz. I spent my Christmas with my family at Disneyland. Previously I had thought a trip to a theme park on a major holiday is a death wish. However, I am always impressed by how well Disney handles large crowd sizes. It was crowded, with the park hitting capacity for an hour at around 3 P.M I am ... ...

Prevailing theories had a B&M hypercoaster pegged for the park. In March of 07, screamscape.com wrote: “If the latest rumors are true, Busch Gardens Tampa may [...]...

Disney announced today that's it has reached its cap of 1 million volunteers getting a free one-day ticket to Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, so there will be no more sign-ups.The announcement means that you can no longer sign up for a volunteer activity to get a free ticket (though, of course, volunteer agencies are almost always happy to accept your help anyway). By Robert Niles: I've been waiting for Impressions de France's spotlight day so that I could start a discussion I've been wanting to get into.Part of the reason why I love Impressions de France so much is that it contains one of those rare, "perfect moments" for me as a theme park fan: When we see the Eiffel Tower and the theme from Saint-Saens' Organ Concerto begins. That rousing finale, culminating with the timpani blasts as the curtain closes and the host strides toward the Eiffel Tower in mi...

It was amazing. Last year, they rented out the old Salvation Army wareho...
